Kshitij is a Mumbai-based NGO dedicated to empowering adults (18+) with intellectual challenges through structured skill development programs in supportive, sheltered workspaces.
While special schools offer guidance up to the age of 18, many families struggle to find meaningful opportunities for their children beyond that stage.
Founded in 1997 by four determined mothers of children with special needs.
Kshitij was created to bridge this critical gap. The organization focuses on nurturing independence, building practical skills, and creating a sense of purpose for individuals with conditions such as brain injuries, Down syndrome, autism, and dyslexia.
At Kshitij, adults with intellectual challenges are empowered through a blend ofvocational and life skills training. From creating beautiful handmade products topreparing delicious treats, every activity builds confidence, independence, and asense of purpose. Alongside this, therapeutic support like counseling, music, anddance helps nurture their overall well-being.
Each individual is guided to navigate everyday life with confidence, while earning a weekly stipend—instilling pride, motivation, and a sense of contribution.
Driven by a vision of inclusivity, Kshitij also supportschildren from special schools through educational sponsorships, extending its impact beyond its walls.
What began as a small initiative has grown into apowerful movement—transforming lives by fosteringdignity, independence, and hope for every individual it touches.
